The discovery is a surprise, since the disease had been thought to be caused by environmental factors with genetics playing a minor role, the Washington Post reported. The mutation is believed to be responsible for 20 percent of the Parkinson's cases in people of Middle Eastern descent, including Jews, Arabs and North Africans."
