"Benign" Hallucinations in Parkinson's Disease Likely to Progress:
"So-called 'benign' hallucinations in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) - nonpsychotic hallucinations with retained insight -- usually have a malignant course, investigators in Chicago report in the Archives of Neurology for May. Hallucinations occur in roughly one third of patients treated with dopaminergic medications, Dr. Christopher G. Goetz and his associates at Rush University note. The Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) defines benign hallucinations as a 'thought disorder with retained insight,' and patients with this manifestation are scored 2 on the UPDRS thought disorder scale....." |
